In this music video from the Script there have been 172 cuts which means there is a lot of camera activity and considering this is a medium paced song the number of shots is very high. The reason for this i think is because the song is very emotional and this is shown through the fast paced editing.
The majority of the shots are generally close up of the actors and performers faces to show their emotions, this is seen in the mix of band performers and a narrative story performance by the actors. A constant editing technique that has been used is overlaying two pieces of footage to create meaning, this was very useful when we saw the face of the actor and then footage of a location on top which can suggest the persons thoughts and feelings.
The Script follows the usual alternative rock genre where the music videos show the band performing and generally many meat shot of the main singer are used. This music video also has a narrative running parallel to the performance to enhance the meaning of the song. I think the video is mostly aimed women because the male singer is shown as the voyegerist figure and the narrative was made to represent a range of feelings that girl can experience making them relate to the video.
I watched this video and i attempeted in counting all of the shots. Overall, I got 228 shots however at some parts the speed of the shots quickened which made this even more challenging.
The main shots used in this video are High and Low angles, as well as medium and close up shots. The close up and medium shots were throughout the video however the fluidity was shown by the angles which gave a great variation and made the video look more professional.
They didn't really use any creative techniques however the use of the crane and tracks from scene to scene made the editing seem almost invisible. To me I feel that these are quite creative because if they weren't placed in were they are now then the flow of the video would be disrupted.
The genre I feel is best suited for this type of music is pop/dance/techno. This is visible by the clothing that is worn and also by the way they dance at the beginning( eg. If it was hard rock or heavy metal they would be head banging). The narrative has been applied in this video as LMFAO are the only normal people left on their planet as everyone has been shown the 'shuffle' and the only way to fit in is to dance along. The audience for this type of video is for anyone who likes dance, pop or techno music as well as teenagers as the costumes are more likely to be associated with them. I feel that there is no specific thing the video is trying to represent however I think that the video is supposed to make people feel good and tell them to relax as the line 'hating is bad' is repeated on various occasions.
This music video by Vampire Weekend is in a similar genre although the full video is produced in a single continuos shot which changed as the story goes on but not cuts to another angle or action. This is a good example of great choreography and confident performance.
