Digipak Images
We have already got some images of the band as we did a photo shoot with them earlier in the year. We will use one of those images to be our front cover for our digipak.
Rough Cut 3
Before entering our final edit of the music video, we have released our third rough cut on You Tube, which shows all of our footage that has been merged together. Our final edit will consist of effects and transitions ( adding the film burns etc.).
Final Logo Design
Making of final logo
This is the final logo that we have decided on. We added a clock as we feel that the clock helps signify the time but it has been done subtly.
Here we added two coloured lines which we feel are mutual colours for varied artists and also the band performing are wearing this type of colour on their ties.
The font we have used shows the simplicity of our design as wel feel that less is more in this case.
Update on digipak
We have found a template for our digipak in which we will work around to end up with our final project. Here is a few examples of what it looked like and the outcome.
Before the stencil was cut out.
We have cut the stencil out here and folded it into place. We will now be able to do it later on as we have had practice. Here is the front and the middle part of the digipak.
This image shows the spine of the digipak.
This image shows the front and back panel.
This is the inside of the digipak model.
As we progress on the digipak we will add our own images and logos to get the digipak to the best possible standard.
Rough Cut 2 Comments
We have asked various people that we know what they thought about our music video and what we could improve on.
Positive comments:
Good Lip sync
Variety of Shots
Good use of special effects
Negative Comments:
Use more appropriate shots
Add more thought beats
So far we are in the process of uploading and editing new footage. Once this is done we will add more thought beats as we have marked out where we want these to be placed.

Further Development From Rough Cut 2
We have decided as the 'narrative' part of our music video works well with the full video to replace any sort of blurry footage with the narrative. We feel that this will give our video a more professional look and a fluent feel towards the editing.
Rescheduling of Shoot Days
As one band member is absent on the wednesday of shooting, we will aim to do a narrative part instead with the main singer if possible on Wednesday. If this doesn't work, we will try to film this Friday.
Update on Editing
A few edits have been added so far with additional footage for the narrative. Slow motion shots have been filmed and all is ready to be edited.
Rough Cut 2
In this second rough cut we have seen that there are a lot of out of focus areas so we will replace these with other footage.

Update on Workflow
Currently we are producing slow motion sections using existing footage from the first video shoot. These will be added into the music video tomorrow. After this we will produce the second Rough Cut with selected cuts and slow motion shots. Another video shoot will be completed this Wednesday (9th November) which puts us ahead of the deadline.

Rough Cut 1
Here is our first rough cut. Later we will edit our music video and choose our preferred shots to be in the video. Currently we have only one setup with the band performing in the studio. With this we will have narrative shots which represent pressure and another location shot of the band to show more variety or shots and lighting effects.
The next rough cut will have more cuts to show more variety. After we will make sure the cuts are made according to the song to create thought beats.

Mood Board
The image above is of a mood board that we have both put together to show our inspirations for the music video. In the top left corner, we have took some inspiration on what we think our artist and band members should wear, giving off a casual feel to the band. To the right of this is a meat shot which we feel we will need to do a lot of these when the singer is performing. We have also added the logo in from the band we are going to lip sync to as we will create a logo for the band. In the top right we have also shown that we are wanting to create a slight narrative in our music video.
Since our song is 'Apply Some Pressure' we took inspiration from Maximo Park's Gone Missing video which shows different forms of pressure such as some water boiling on a stove. We added a music note into our mood board because we feel that the lyrics are really important and we want to convey this message through the narrative. The furthest on the right, shows Maximo Park's record label. This gives us an idea of what ours should look like for our band.
In our music video we also want to show a performance from the band were they are playing their instruments. This gives a concert feel and according to our audience research, the performance is their favourite type of music video. We have also added the camera we will be using for our video. This can do slow motion effects and we can speed things up on final pro with this camera.
We feel that this mood board will help us throughout our video editing as we will always be reminded of what we originally wanted and we will be able to tell if we are getting distracted on something else on the video.
Record Label Logo Ideas
Our record company will be called Time Records and this logo will be shown at the end of the music video as well as on the digipak and advert. This
This first design shows the title and uses similar colours to what the band is wearing throughout the video. The usual red and black would be kept constant.
This design combines two images (old clock and vinyl) that we feel best represents the company(Time Records). As we want the company to seem well known throughout the years we have used a clock to show time on top of a vinyl which is the company's passion.
Practice footage with the band
Before filming our music video sequences we have decided that we need to practice and look at the arrangement of the band. During their practice session we have recorded another song with the camera we would be using for the music video to practice using the camera and seeing any issues we may be faced when filming on location.
Found issues during practice filming:
- When holding the camera there was noticeable camera shake and I think this could be distracting in the future. To reduce the chance of this happening we will make sure we use a tripod or stability device for the majority of the shots.
- Steady camera movement is hard to achieve. In order to overcome this we will use a dolly track to introduce movement into our shots.
- When using a wide aperture lens it is tricky to get correct focus while moving but if we use a tripod, this should be made easier.
- The sound quality from the built-in microphone is very poor, although it is good enough to be synchronised with master tracks. If we wanted to capture the sound from the camera we would use an external microphone with much better quality sound.
Positives from practice filming:
- The wide aperture lens gives a very attractive soft focus effect
- Using this DSLR camera we are filming in High Definition which will give us a lot of detail
- In low light conditions the camera performs very well which is very good because we are planning to do a number of low key shots

Inspirational Videos Continued
Our other inspirational videos involves an artist that we actually met, Jake Morley. Here is the music video that also gave us some inspiration on certain techniques. The techniques we are mainly interested in have been talked about below.
The image to the left shows some illustration text of the lyrics and the title of the song. The text looks like it has been drawn which gives a youth feel to the video and a unique edge.
This image is a still shot of what is happening however for the full effect please watch the video. Here is an example of the technique that everything is sped up. The artist is actually walking really slowly and is singing the song slowly too however the people in the background arte what gives this away. This has been left deliberate to show the effect of the full video being sped up.
The image to the left shows an example of an illustration being used in the video, as the artist is aware of what will happen in the music video he has made an action in which the illustration can be co-operated into the video.
Inspirational Videos
Here are a few videos that have inspired us to add certain techniques into our video. Hopefully we will make them as effective as these.
We like the beginning of this music video because the dolly shows a fluid movement. If we can we will add this type of movement to our video as we feel it will help the flow of our music video.
The image to the right is used to present thought beats however the boiling of the water also represents the pressure of what the main singer is feeling. The shot is a close up which makes sure that everyone understands what is happening
In this shot the singer is giving the camera eye contact for the whole duration of the close up. This gives the music video some intensity and makes it seem more personal. When doing our close ups of the our singer we will make sure that eye contact is made.
The image on the right is an example of slow motion in use. This gives off a great effect and makes the audience und
erstand what is happening. This is what gave us inspiration for using slow motion. We will try to attempt this method into our music video.
This still is sped up on the music video and because the lighting is dim and the music video is in black and white, this gives a creepy eerie feel towards the video. As well as the slow motion, this image has also inspired us to create some sped up shots in our work.

Recee Shots
The next shot is when the band member is walking to his concert.
Here is where the close up shot will reveal Maximo Park's song 'apply some pressure'.
This will eventually be a close up shot in the narrative and they will be picking up their coat to leave for the concert.
The shot continues andthis shows that the person has took the items and will use them later.
Here is a close up of one of the band member's hands. They will be the narrative and they are reaching for their i-pod.
We will make the people have a very dark shadow which will be very effective and dramatic; the audience in main focus also.
We would like to film over the shoulder shots facing the audience if possible.
Here is another way of filming the audience.
To give the video a slight edge, we will film the performance like this.
This image is were we would film the audience.
Here is where we would shoot the band during the concert.

Test footage with camera
Before shooting our music video we have to practice with the camera we are going to be using. I have picked the Canon 550D because it is very light weight compared to video cameras and it is capable of shooting High Definition quality. Although the best point about using this camera is the ability to change lenses to achieve a number of different focal lenghts and apertures as well as macro filming.

Slow Motion Research
By looking at this Maximo Park video we really liked the slow motion effect that was used throughout this video because it makes the actions more dramatic and interesting. After some initial research we have seen that a lot of current music videos contain some kind of speed adjustments. One of signature features about Maximo Park videos is how the footage of the main singer is speed up to show his unique performance.
Examples of slow motion footage:
Later we will further analyse our slow motion research and will look at the effects the camera can do in which we will be using.

Why?
Like the varietybecause it tells a story but also includes a routine and adds different effects and doesnt become boring or repetitive.I like the variety, the performance brings the authenticity and the narrative can help keep the attention. To add interest to the song and to add meaning to the lyrics and music. you get to see the band in real life and acting funnynarrative gives me a reason to watch, performance adds some jazzz :-) More inclined to watch it with a more active video.Gives the audience a feel for the bands live qualities, narratives are brilliant if it relates to the lyrics, b...
